Energy Efficiency and Conservation Block Grant (EECBG)
The Federal Government recently enacted the Energy Efficiency and Conservation Block Grant (EECBG), a new source of funding to assist local governments in undertaking conservation, waste and greenhouse gas reduction activities. Should Congress approve its funding, this program will provide up to $2 billion on an annual basis to state and local governments who choose to participate. Initially, local officials will be required to submit a plan to the Secretary of Energy laying out how they will meet the goals of the EECBG program. Once approved, that local entity would receive funds annually to implement their plan.
Rentacrate works with local governments who wish to be a part of the EECBG mandated energy efficiency and conservation strategy through a variety of different tactics, including:
- Facilitating the replacement of cardboard boxes used for internal moves and storage with reusable recyclable crates.
- Assisting local governments in developing and implementing programs to conserve energy used in transportation.
- Reducing greenhouse gas emissions due to the phase-out of cardboard cuts which cause deforestation.
- Qualifying governments to apply for valuable LEED® (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) points for publicly-owned and funded buildings through the Green Building Rating System™.
